How to Join Glenville Hill

The Glenville Hill Volunteer Fire Company, Incorporated, is staffed completely by volunteers, just like you! Come see what it’s like to be part of a small, dedicated group of volunteer firefighters!

The process can start with you stopping by, any Tuesday night from 7pm to 9pm, and introducing yourself to us. By meeting our family in-person, you can get a feel for what we’re like and see first-hand why you will want to be part of Glenville Hill!

Already decided to join? Great! The next step is to fill out an application. You can drop it off at 1086 Church Road, Glenville, NY 12302 anytime – but Tuesday nights from 7pm to 9pm are best, because someone will be there!

Once you hand your application in, it will be read at our next Company meeting (first Tuesday of every month) and posted for 30 days. Then, at the company meeting following the 30 day posting, your application is voted on by the existing members!

We encourage you to attend as many Tuesday nights drills and meetings as possible, between the day you hand in your application and the night you are voted in. Its a great way for us all to get to know one-another, and for you to know for sure if we are the right fit for you. You are not required to attend any night, except for the night your application is voted on. You must be present to be voted in. If you can’t make it, we’ll just hold your application for the next Company meeting.

Once you are voted in, we will get you started on:

  1. Getting your Department-provided physical;
  2. Setting you up with structural firefighting turnout gear;
  3. Starting you on your way with new member training;
  4. Encouraging you to take all the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control-provided training you can fit into your schedule!
  5. Providing you with Glenville Hill swag, like tee-shirts, hats and coats!

NONE of those items will cost you any money! We provide it all! (There is a $12 per-year dues assessment you must pay to the company. Those dues and other income go to fund the scholarship program we provide to local, graduating High School students.)

Please note: New York State requires us to perform a background check on anyone wishing to become a volunteer firefighter. Again, there is no cost to you. New York State requires us to check for specific types of convictions, some of which will prevent you from becoming a member of the Company. If you have any questions, feel free to ask us in person, or at Contact.Us@GlenvilleHillFire.com.

So stop by, talk to us, fill out that application and get started on the next chapter: becoming a firefighter!
